Centaur

Centaur was formed in January '99 by core members and guitarists Brad Hooper and Dion Hicks. Centaur's music is a unique blend of thrash/grind/groove metal, which has since proved to be a force to be reckoned with. Continuing to gain popularity on a local and national level with their intense live shows and mosh-friendly riffs, Centaur have built quite a substantial following over the last four years which began with the release of their 2000 demo "Addicted To Hate"".

Some very steady gigging on the local scene also followed the release of "Addicted To Hate" and word of Centaurs energetic and aggressive live shows soon started to travel. With Segression choosing to include the band on their national tour and Xpress magazine publishing Centaur "fan mail" sent to the publication on more than one occasion, Centaur had cemented a strong following in these early days. The band also managed to secure a spot in the finals of the prestigious "Gozzy Rock" band competition as well as beating 70 other bands to make it into the highly competitive and much sort after "Next Big Thing" state wide band competition.

January 2001 saw local thrasher Cain Cressall taking over vocal duties from Jason Seinor. Cain brought with him a more sinister vocal style to the already aggressive music of Centaur. This allowed the band's new material to explore a darker and heavier realm than was displayed on the "Addicted To Hate" Demo.

Now after taking considerable time off from the live scene to concentrate on their new recording, Centaur's much anticipated "Shadows In My Head" E.P. has been set loose on the world. In a rare act from any of Australia's metal bands, Centaur boldly chose to delay the release of their E.P. so that they could include their debut video clip to compliment the four blisteringly brutal tracks. This fresh new offering from Centaur, employs the engineering talents of Aidan Barton (engineer for The Berzerker's "Dissimulate" album) and John Villani (engineer and producer for Allegiances "Destitution" and "Skinman" albums).

Unfortunately, as of late 2003, the band disbanded due to constant line-up problems. Their "Shadows In My Head" E.P. has officially sold out & will not be repressed.
