Dawn Of Azazel - Sedition

Review by: Pyro - Pyromusic Webzine - 2006.

Having established an amicable name for themselves with the release of two demos and an ensuing debut full-length which saw a much-refined sound, New Zealand trio Dawn Of Azazel have wound themselves up and unleashed torrent number two of world-class, polished, punishing Death Metal. Incorporating a myriad of influences - executed in style, the unfortunately brief yet in so being, utterly unrelenting 'Sedition' is a 29-minute feast of deliciously down-tuned riffs, thick bass, huge vocals, technicality and unadulterated aggression. Each of the nine crushing chops (averaging a shade over 3 minutes a pop) showcases fantastic musicianship, tight production, sea-sawing signatures and a strong chemistry resulting in an album I find hard to fault. Were it not for the excellent band-created artwork gracing the album, I may make more of a point at picking at the shortcoming of length but what 'Sedition' lacks in duration it makes up for in brute force and conciseness. 8 out of 10.

Review by: Scott Alisoglu - Pit magazine #54 - 2006.

New Zealand's Dawn of Azazel know a thing or two about raising a ruckus, as demonstrated by its role in a recent media -created circus. Well shit, one listen to Sedition and its clear the trio's psychosis runs deep. This kind of violent death metal calamity cannot be faked; it courses through the veins and burns in the soul. Choppy riff sickness, breakneck rhythums and spine-snapping aggression are the descriptors that come to mind. Think in terms of the new Decapitated mixed with a pinch of Meshuggah rhythm-madness and a dash or Origin torture tempo and you'll be in the right ballpark. Right, it's a cinch that Sedition will not be making any adult contemporary or smooth jazz radio play lists. The shout vocals of Bassist Rigel Walshe are manic and aggresive, to say the least. His four string terror combines with Martin Cavanagh's drumming to create an imppossibly tight, yet insanely twisted rhytum section. Guitarist Joseph Bonnett's staccato riff blasts and speed-picking terror are downright frightening. His occasional frentic guitar solo only worstens the fear. In short, Sedition is one hellish shit storm of hate and depravity. Scared yet?
